In a perfect world all hacks would be legal. Doing a thing because you dont want to pay for it is completely fine. Im not advocating at all for doing illegal stuff. Dont do that.
In the first order of business... hacking can take many forms. Hacking is an art-a survival instinct-and a means to an end. It is the method by which you weild the tool to complete your goals.
Never let anyone take that from you.
